The Character Cafe – Feature Friday – Easel Christmas Card AND Mini Pizza Box!

DSC03301

Hello! Thanks for stopping by my blog today to check out my project! Today is a day of FIRSTS! I have made my very first of two projects - an easel card and a mini pizza box! I was a little intimidated by both of them, but they are EASY! I’ll even give you measurements here! :o)

This is my "off" week with The Character Cafe, so I'm entering this into the Verve Stamps challenge!

DSC03289

A photo of the easel card ‘closed’.

DSC03297A photo of the easel card open.

For the Easel Card – makes a 4” card

First, figure out what cardstock and patterned paper you’re going to use! Once you’ve done that, decide how you’re going to layer the papers!

Measurements:

  1. 4x8 inch card stock – this will be your card base!
  2. 3 3/4 x 3 3/4 cardstock or patterned paper
  3. 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 cardstock or patterned paper
  4. 3 3/4 x 1 3/4 cardstock or patterned paper

Directions:

  1. On the 8” side of your cardstock, score at 2 and 4 inches.
  2. Fold on score lines to make a valley and mountain fold. This makes the triangular shape like what is shown on my card below.
  3. Add your layers and embellish.

*To make an A2 sized card, cut your 8.5x11 sheet of cardstock at 4.25”, then fold in half at 5.5” to get a card where the front flips up rather than opening on the right hand side. Score at 2.75” and fold to make your mountain fold (like below). The sizes above won’t work for this size card, but you’d just adjust your sizes down by 1/4” for each layer. Hope that helps. If not, leave me a comment here with your email address and I’ll email you back!

DSC03320Photo of Mini Pizza Box.

For the Mini Pizza Box – makes a 4x4 box

This is an EXPENSIVE project, so brace yourself!!! You’ll need ONE sheet of 8.5x11 paper, adhesive and whatever embellishments you want to use! Yes, that’s it! Expensive, huh? LOL

Measurements:

  1. 6x11 sheet of cardstock – this needs to be CARDSTOCK!
  2. 3 3/4 x 3 3/4 piece of cardstock of patterned paper
  3. 3 1/2 x 3 1/2 piece of cardstock of patterned paper
  4. 3 3/4 x 3/4 pieces of cardstock or patterned paper (you’ll need 4)

Directions:

  1. Take your 6x11 sheet of cardstock and score on the 6” side at 1 and 5 inches.
  2. Turn your cardstock to the 11” side and score at 1, 5, 6 and 10 inches.
  3. On BOTH of the 11” sides, cut all score lines to the perpendicular line. DO NOT cut the entire square out! These are the flaps to hold your box together!
  4. Fold all scored lines and crease with bone folder to get a crisp edge.
  5. Adhere flaps to inside of box. You’ll want a strong adhesive that is going to hold well! I used Zip Dry and held the flaps closed for several seconds to make sure it held.
  6. Layer cardstock or patterned pieces and embellish as desired.

See? It really is easy! :o)

DSC03326 A photo of both projects together.

Now, the details of my supplies are a little “fuzzy”. I don’t know where the patterned paper came from! It was in a Christmas paper stack, but unfortunately I don’t know which one! I took them out of the stack and put them into a bag of Christmas papers and embellishments several months ago…dumb idea!

  • Image – The Character Cafe
  • Copics – R11, E29, E37, E27, E99, C5, C7, C9, R37, R29, G29, YG17
  • Texture on Reindeer & Antlers – blending solution on paper towel and tapped onto image
  • Red & Blue textured paper – Cardstock Online
  • Buttons – from my stash

Text in a Circle - TUTORIAL

THANK YOU SO MUCH to my friend, Fran, for emailing me this information!  I’d been doing this in Inkscape and taking crazy steps to put it into PSP to be able to save it as a PNG file!  I haven’t tried her steps yet…not enough hours in the day…but she is very thorough with her instructions.  If you happen to have any questions or run into trouble, please let me know and I’ll relay the information to her!

Oh, thought I’d also add that I *did* get permission from Fran to post this information on my blog!  She doesn’t have a blog yet, but said she may set one up in the near future.  Maybe if she gets enough feedback from this post we can get her to do more tutorials!?!?!  So, leave comments to let Fran know exactly how much you love her tutorial and how much you’d LOVE to see her do more!  ;o)

1.  Open PSP and new image.

new page1

2. Click on the Preset Shapes option on your toolbar.

preset shape visual2

3. You should now see your Preset Shape window.  Select Ellipse to draw your circle. See my dimensions below.

preset preset shape window3

4. Draw the size circle you need for the text you will be using.  Remember to hold the Shift Key down as you draw the

circle so that it is round in shape.

5. Click on the Font Option on the Toolbar.

6. Take your mouse and place cursor on the line of the circle and you should see this

image.  font image in circle6.  Now begin to write your text.  The first image shows what dimensions, etc. I used to get my

text around the circle in the Text Entry Window.  The second image shows my results.

7.  Now lets get rid of the Selection Square around your circle and the circle too.  You do this by:

Clicking on Selections (top of the screen toolbar) Select None---Square is gone!

Now in order to get rid the circle you have to go to your Layer Palette. Click on the layer option as indicated

    in the visual below.

layer palette button9

8. After you click on the layer palette option you should see this window.

open layer palette visual10 Now click on the plus sign to view all the layers.

9.  See the Red Xs below.  Click on the glasses icon next to ellipse and background.

circle gone now transparetn11  Circle and white background should be gone.  Now click on the

red X in the right hand corner of the Layer Palette to get rid of the window.

10. You should see your text in a circle on a transparent screen.

This may look tedious at first but once you practice you will get the hang of it.

The Rusty Pickle – Sneak Peek – Baby Shoes

DSC03250

Thanks for stopping by! My sneak peek today for The Rusty Pickle is BABY SHOES!!! These baby images are just TOO CUTE! For this project, I chose to do another girl card. I know! I know! But I just love girly, lacy, frilly cards…which is very weird, because I’m not a girly, lacy, frilly kind of person! I wear jeans & t-shirts most of the time and rarely wear anything dressy. I guess you could say I’m living my “frilly-ness” through my cards!

DSC03245

(photo with flash)

Details for this project:

  • Image – The Rusty Pickle
  • Ribbon – White Ribbon colored with Copic marker
  • Purple CS – Stampin Up!
  • Gems – Skittles
  • Paper Punch – Doily by Martha Stewart
  • Embossing Folders – Flowers (from Paisley & Flowers set) by Sizzix and Tiny Bubbles by Cuttlebug

Image was cut out and popped up on three layers of CS with foam tape.

The Rusty Pickle – Sneak Peek – Baby Bunny Card

DSC03258

Hello Blogville!  I am honored and privileged to be invited to be on the very first EVER Design Team for The Rusty Pickle!  THANK YOU!  These images are SO cute and inspiring!  Michelle is releasing new images all the time, so be sure to check out The Rusty Pickle store to take a peek!

DSC03261

For today’s project, I chose to do my project as a baby card.  Seems like several people we know have had, or are having, babies.  No thank you!  I love my kids dearly, but three is enough for me!  ;o)

For my baby bunny card, I used:

  • Image - Bunny from The Rusty Pickle
  • Embossing – D’vine Swirl and Tiny Bubbles from Cuttlebug
  • Bling – Star Dust Stickles
  • Ribbon – White ribbon, colored with Copic marker
  • Copics – RV00, RV32, RV23, C3, C5

Misc info:  I used Colorless Blending Solution on a paper towel to get a sort of “textured/fur” effect on the bunny.  Click on one of the photos and see if it comes through for you.  It’s a really easy step that I think adds a little something to your project!

PTA Holiday Cards

I’ve had a few people ask me to post photos of the PTA cards I made, so here they are!  I’m not going to go into detail on them.  They are pretty self-explanatory!  ;o)

DSC03095

Yes, I know the stamp is crooked!  I got better as I went along!  ;o)

DSC03112

DSC03103

There are a total of 120 cards.  There are probably more pink than there are blue.  I wish we’d have planned better, because our principal just finished her last breast cancer treatment.  We *should* have done them all pink in celebration!  SHUCKS!

The folder is Winter House and the glitter is Star Dust Stickles.  I used a FULL bottle of Stickles and two bottles of Zip Dry adhesive to do these cards.  I’ve never emptied a bottle of Stickles before!  ha!

Thanks for stopping by!

The Rusty Pickle DT Card

DSC03076

I am SO excited to have been asked to be a part of The Rusty Pickle Design Team!  There will be a total of about 8 of us, but the list isn’t yet complete.  We’re still waiting on answers from a couple of people.  So very exciting!!!

I just love snowmen…I guess because I live in Texas where we rarely get snow and even then, not enough snow to build a snowman!?  But maybe it’s also because snowmen are always so happy & cheerful looking!  I don’t know, but they are a love of mine!  So expect to see a few snow-person images between now and Christmas.  And today’s image is a snow WOMAN!  Isn’t she cute?!?!  ;o)

  • Image – The Rusty Pickle
  • Copics – C7, 0, BG10, C3, 0, YR68, YR09, RV00, RV23
